The University of Alabama (UA), founded in 1831, is the states oldest public university and the senior comprehensive doctoral-level institution in the state of Alabama. UA consists of 12 academic colleges, offers over 200 fields of study, and is consistently ranked among the top 50 public US universities and colleges by US News & World Report. The University of Alabama has an enrollment of more than 28000 students, including approximately 1000 international students, and is located in the city of Tuscaloosa on a large, beautiful, traditional campus with a friendly atmosphere. Tuscaloosa has a population of approximately 90000 people, is conveniently situated just 90 km southwest of the largest city in Alabama (Birmingham), and enjoys a temperate climate with four seasons, including long hot summers, short mild winters, and pleasantly warm springs and autumns. The English Language Institute (ELI), established by The University of Alabama in 1982, offers a year-round, six-level intensive English program designed primarily for students who need English for academic purposes.
